About All About Gemstones
All About Gemstones is an independent reference site about gemstones and jewelry. It covers how gems form, how gemologists identify and grade them, how they are treated, where they are mined, and how people have worn them through history.
What the library covers
The site is organized into sections: precious gemstones, other gem species, diamonds and the mines that produce them, gem science, pearls, organic gems, jewelry history, gem cutting centers and gem regions, jewelry metals and jewelry making and care. The full list of pages shows everything in one place.
How pages are written
Pages are written and reviewed by the site's editors from established gemological and mineralogical references. Each page states facts that are settled in the field, gives ranges where measurements vary, and frames market, mining and trade topics historically, since prices and production change. The editorial policy explains the standards in more detail.
What the site is not
Nothing here is an appraisal, a grading report or financial advice. For an expensive stone, use an independent gemological laboratory and a qualified appraiser.
